About
Junwei Zhang (b. 1992, Sichuan, China) is a cross-disciplinary artist and poet. His work focuses on rethinking the existing logic/rule on the role of media at constructing the network of meaning and power in contemporary culture. While influenced by Structuralists and Post-structuralists theories, he still found close relationship with Zen and Daoist philosophies. He was Artist in Residence at Kanazawa Art Port(Japan) and Gretchen Schuette Art Gallery(Salem, OR). Before completed his MFA degree in 2020 at the University of Oregon, Junwei worked as editor of FotoArtist magazine, where he interviewed a great number of leading visual artists and emerging young artists in China. He also co-curated a series of exhibitions in CDPC gallery in Chengdu. After examined bonsai/garden and vehicle as media in Japan, he joined the Institute of Communication Research at the University of Illinois in 2023.
