About

Junwei Zhang (b. 1992, Sichuan, China) is a multimedia artist and poet. His work focuses on rethinking the existing logic/rule on the role of media at constructing the network of meaning and power in the contemporary culture context. Although his research has been influenced by Structuralists and Post-Structuralists, he still found close relationship with Zen and Daoism. He was Artist in Residence at Kanazawa Art Port(Japan) and Gretchen Schuette Art Gallery(Salem, OR). His work has been exhibited at China, Japan, New York and across the Pacific Northwest. Before pursuing his MFA degree, Junwei worked as editor of FotoArtist magazine, he interviewed a great number of leading visual artists and emerging young artists in China. He also co-curated a series of exhibitions in CDPC gallery in Chengdu. He was a Graduate Teaching Fellow at University of Oregon. In 2020, along with a global crisis during COVID, he graduated. Currently, while living in Kanazawa, Japan, he is exploring bonsai/garden and vehicle as media.
